First-Time Software and Motor Setup

Flash both computers, open the dashboard, and prepare all 25 motors before assembly.

This setup takes about two hours. Most of that time is spent assigning IDs to the 25 motors.

You will:

  1. flash the Radxa CM5 Robot Processing Unit (RPU)
  2. flash the Raspberry Pi 5 microSD card
  3. open the robot dashboard and confirm the RPU is online
  4. assign each motor the ID printed on its sticker
  5. assemble the robot, then return to Verification when the validated procedure is published

Everything after flashing is completed in the dashboard. No terminal is required for motor setup.

Before You Begin

Keep the Raspberry Pi 5 retail box. The 16-digit code behind its QR code is the password for the robot's fallback Wi-Fi network.

You will need:

  • a laptop with Wi-Fi and a USB-C port
  • a data-capable USB-C cable
  • a microSD card of 32 GB or larger and a card reader
  • an Ethernet cable
  • the released power supplies
  • all 25 motors with their numbered stickers

Use a matched release

Use RPU and Raspberry Pi images identified as belonging to the same release round. Mixing releases can leave joints uncontrolled.
